The situation in the modern world makes it necessary to pay particular
attention to gender studies in sociology, as well as other branches of
science. With savage gender inequalities existing in many countries
nowadays, it is necessary to struggle for the rights of women in
different spheres of life, including workplace. It has been proved
that gender inequality may result in economic stagnation because of
decreasing labour productivity, to say nothing of the violation of the
basic human rights - the rights to feel safe and secure, and have
equal opportunities with other citizens of the country.
Our project is aimed at elimination of inequity at the workplace (one
of the most burning social problems of our country). Basing upon the
principles of gender sociology and legislation of the USA, we
elaborate the ways to deal with this problem. We presume that though
in our country, females are defended with the help of democratic laws,
and formally their rights are equal to those of male citizens, women
are discriminated, and their economic, political, social, and other
rights are violated.
Having researched the distribution of wages in our country over the
past decade (with the help of surveys, calculations, statistical
method, and field testing), we came to the conclusion that thought the
situation is improving, the percentage of women earning the smallest
wages is much higher than among men. Gender inequality at the
workplace is likely to give rise to psychological discomfort and even
aggression, so it should necessarily be dealt with.
We presume that the methods of the struggle for equity of genders
should be very diverse so that it can strike any target group and be
really effective. It is crucial to adjust certain social phenomena to
the philosophy of modern life, whereas the principles of democracy
should be accounted for. We are also sure that there is a need to
develop social programmes at the level of personality and family, so
that to facilitate positive changes in the society.
Part of our project is also the rehabilitation of the oppressed women
- making them aware of their status in the family and, in broader
sense, in the society in the whole. These women should be assisted in
creating a new image of their personalities: they should learn more
about their potential, opportunities, psychology, and history.
