SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY |
 |
Scholarship essays are meant to persuade organizations or funds (both
state and private ones) which provide different kinds of scholarships
that you are worth while getting it. First of all, it is absolutely
necessary to understand what kind of scholarship you are applying to,
and what the requirements to the winner are. Naturally, a scholarship
essay should contain the reasons for granting a scholarship to you, as
well as information about yourself and the ways you are going to
benefit from this scholarship in future life.
If you are applying for a scholarship which enables you to realize
some particular project (for instance, a scientific research of some
kind), it is vital to include into the essay a summary of this project
(its aims, volume, time required for its actualization, possibly its
plan and cost).
The introduction should tell about the author of the essay as a
potential scholarship recipient and convince the scholarship donor
that you are really worth it. The impression you will produce upon the
readers is absolutely crucial, so you should provide well grounded
reasons why your application deserves material support. In the
introduction, you may also briefly outline you aims and objectives,
the stages of your personal development, some significant
achievements, etc. Later, all the above mentioned points should be
elaborated upon in the main body of a scholarship essay.
It is also possible to mention any positive recommendations you have
ever achieved from your teachers, colleagues, clients, coaches,
managers, etc (depending on the type of a scholarship). All these
recommendations will be enclosed later together with the scholarship
essay. Mentioning recommendations, do not forget to indicate the name
and contact details of the people who can provide them.
In the main body of the scholarship essay, it is necessary to
elaborate in detail upon your plans as for how to utilize the
scholarship once it is granted to you. These plans should be as
concrete and precise as possible, including the entire scope of the
problems you will manage to solve with the help of the scholarship,
the knowledge you will obtain, and the goals you are sure to achieve.
While it is obvious from the very beginning that you need money for
some particular project, you should demonstrate how the scholarship is
going to help you personally and how you will then, after the
completion of you plans, contribute to a broader context (i.e. help
other people, develop social programmes, be of use for the society of
state etc.).
Basically, in the scholarship application you should logically and
convincingly state what the money you are going to get will be spent
upon, and prove that the aims you are planning to achieve are
attainable within a specified term and with the help of the specified
sum of money (that is, you should remain realistic).
The conclusion of a scholarship essay may contain the re-statement of
your goals.
As far as the style and tone of a scholarship essay are concerned, of
course, it should be interesting, attention-grabbing, original, and as
personally directed as possible (that is, it should not be compiled in
the manner of advertising letters whose aim is to get different target
audiences interest in certain product or service). You future sponsor
should feel unique, and feel your uniqueness, too. Your application
should distinguish itself from all the rest of applications, and that
is why it is necessary to be particularly creative and sincere when
writing a scholarship essay.
